May Flowers... #WeNeedDiverseBooks

Happy May--and happy Multicultural Heritage month!

It's a new month and I'm excited to be unveiling the many projects I've have brewing. What better day then the first day of MC month then to talk about my very first historical multicultural romance story, A SWEET SURRENDER. It is a short story that will be part of a very special anthology, entitled FOR LOVE & LIBERTY: Untold Love Stories of the American Revolution, which will include three other multicultural romance stories.
She had the power to heal his body and soften his heart…but can they set duty aside and surrender to their love?

Siaragowaeh of the Onyota’aka tribe has a love for all things living and when a fallen British solider becomes severely wounded, Siara secretly nurtures the officer back to health, putting her own position in her tribe at risk. Sergeant James Blake of His Majesty’s elite assault troops vaguely remembers the ambush that left him at the mercy of a beautiful native woman… a woman he isn’t yet certain he can trust. Driven by his duty to the Crown and his loyalty to his men, James sets out to return to his regime and learn their fate. But leaving Siara behind isn’t something he is prepared to do.

When a narrow escape from Siara’s village forces them on the trail together, desire soon flares even brighter between them. Yet in a journey driven by duty and complicated by loyalty, Siara and James must determine if they will follow their predestined paths or surrender to their hearts and chart anew…
What inspired this story was extensive research into the Battle of Saratoga, which ended with the British army's infamous surrender. In my research, I discovered the Onieda (or "Onyota’aka") Indian tribe who were considered the "First Allies" to the Americans during the Revolutionary War, and were also very influential in helping the Americans defeat the British during the "Saratoga Campaign". During my research, I was curious about the lack of assistance sent to British General John Burgoyne despite his many requests. These events led me to thinking: what if troops had actually been en route to General Burgoyne's aid but they had been ambushed... and what would happen if an Onieda medicine woman, who is supposed to be allied to the Americans, found herself compelled to help a British solider... These "what ifs" left me intrigued and thus Siara and James' story was born.

A SWEET SURRENDER is just one of the four stories in this revolutionary anthology so be sure to read up on the other three riveting tales included in FOR LOVE & LIBERTY (June 2014).
