"Authors in Bloom" Blog Hop: Classic Grilled Cheese Sandwich Recipe

Welcome to the "Author's in Bloom" blog hop! For this hop, I wanted to send share a classic recipe: grilled cheese sandwich. It's is a favorite of Mikey's, my heroine's 4-year old son from BECAUSE THIS IS FOREVER, and a easy, classic dish for anyone to make.

Grilled cheese can be made in a variety of waysā€”with tomato, with bacon, with mozzarella (or any other cheese). Mikey enjoys all things cheese so his favorite is the classic.

How do you like your grilled cheese sandwiches? If grilled cheese is not for you, what's your favorite kind of sandwich?

Leave a comment for a chance to win some fun author swag, including recipe cards, postcards, and pens. Be sure to leave your email address in the comment section.

Classic Grilled Cheese
Ingredients:
  • 4 slices white bread
  • 3 tablespoons butter, divided
  • 4 slices American cheese
Directions:

1. Preheat skillet over medium heat. Generously butter one side of a slice of bread.

2. Place bread butter-side-down onto skillet bottom and add 1 slice of cheese. Butter a second slice of bread on one side and place butter-side-up on top of sandwich.

3. Grill until lightly browned and flip over; continue grilling until cheese is melted.

4. Repeat with remaining 2 slices of bread, butter and slice of cheese.

Enjoy!

I love grilled cheese sandwiches too. Of course, I like them with American cheese. My mom always used Velveeta cheese....loved how it got so gooey and melty! But lately, I've begun using artisan breads and assorted cheeses like Havarti, Smoked Gouda, Provolone and Swiss. And quite often, a slice of each cheese on one sandwich....very, very good but a little over-the-top!

Thanks for the giveaway.

Two pieces of cheese on honey wheat bread. Normally American or Chedder cheese. Love grilled cheese especially with tomato soup. THank you for being part of the hop.

Usually if I'm making myself a grilled cheese it's a classic with american cheese and it definitely has to have a bowl of tomato soup! I do love grilled cheese with tomato and bacon if I order it from a restaurant!

Love grilled cheese. I use cheddar cheese and do it under the broiler to reduce fat and grease of grilling. With a couple of slices of tomato?? Heaven!!!

Mikey and I agree on the classic grilled cheese sandwich. But my all-time favorite is the other classic: the BLT. Something about bacon, tomato and lettuce just can't be beat.

Thanks everyone for commenting and sharing their favorite grilled cheese! I usually like my classic or mix it up with muenster or mozzarella cheese but now I have more ideas to pull from. Though I have to confess, I've never had it with tomato soup... =)

And because I love the responses so much, I've decided to pick three winners for the Author Swag giveaway. Congrats to Heather Stewart, Dawn Saenz, and Shadow Kohler!
